Richard Misrach is a large-format, 8x10 landscape photographer working mostly in California and the American deserts. His work deals with the relationship between humanity and the natural environment, often focusing on abandoned landscapes where the effect of human intervention is evident. ARTIST PROFILE: Alessandra Sanguinetti

The Black Cloud, 1998-2006 | The Necklace, 1998-2006

Alessandra Sanguinetti
USA/Argentina
(b. 1968)

Magnum photographer Alessandra Sanguinetti's work captures the intimacies of life in rural Argentina. Her series The Adventures of Guille and Belinda and the Enigmatic Meaning of Their Dreams follows the lives of two young cousins growing up their family’s farm outside Buenos Aires. Sanguinetti's photographs have a sad, poetic quality that I find very intriguing.

Alessandra Sanguinetti is represented by Yossi Milo Gallery in New York and Ruth Benzacar Gallery in Bueno Aires.

ARTIST PROFILE: Hiroshi Sugimoto

U.A. Walker, NYC,
1978 | Earliest Human Relatives, 1994

Hiroshi Sugimoto

Japan
(b. 1948)

Falling somewhere between humor and quiet meditation, Sugimoto's photographs study the role artificiality plays in our everyday lives. While he documents places like New York City's Museum of Natural History, movie theaters, and wax museums, his photographs also poignantly illustrate the deceptive qualities inherent in the photographic medium itself.

"However fake the subject, once photographed, it's as good as real."
- Hiroshi Sugimoto on his work with dioramas.
