ARTIST PROFILE: Tierney Gearon

Tierney Gearon
United States (b. 1963)

Tierney Gearon is fine art documentary photographer known for her brutally honest and, at times, psychologically disturbing work.   Her series The Mother Project follows the everyday life of Gearon's eccentric mother.  I first saw this series in the Yossi Milo Gallery in New York, and I left the exhibition feeling both intrigued and a bit embarrassed.  Her photographs, none-the-less, are beautifully executed and never fail to provoke a good conversation.

Richard Misrach
United States
(b. 1949)

Richard Misrach is a large-format, 8x10 landscape photographer working mostly in California and the American deserts. His work deals with the relationship between humanity and the natural environment, often focusing on abandoned landscapes where the effect of human intervention is evident. The sheer beauty of his images is incredibly seductive, however their content presents the potential problems human impact has on the environment.
